Mumbai’s New 5.25-km Sea-Facing Promenade now open

Mumbai has unveiled a spectacular new addition to its waterfront. On August 14, 2025, a 5.25-kilometre stretch of the Coastal Road promenade was officially opened to the public by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Stretching from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and from Baroda Palace to Worli, this scenic expanse welcomes walkers, joggers, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts to enjoy uninterrupted sea views.

More Than Just Length—A Focus on Accessibility
What makes this development truly remarkable is not just its scale—surpassing the length of the iconic Marine Drive—but its focus on inclusivity and accessibility. The promenade boasts a dedicated cycling track, wheelchair-friendly ramps, and four newly operational pedestrian underpasses to ensure safe, convenient access for everyone.

A Stroll Through Greenery and Sea Breeze
Adding to the charm, the pathway is lined with lush palms, ornamental plants, and coastal greenery, complemented by thoughtfully placed seating areas for moments of leisure overlooking the Arabian Sea.

From Limited Hours to 24/7 Access
In a major upgrade for residents and visitors alike, the Coastal Road is now open 24/7, replacing the earlier 7 AM to midnight access window. This change transforms it into a truly round-the-clock public space.

While the 5.25-km stretch is a milestone achievement, work continues on the complete 7.5-km promenade, with additional amenities such as more underpasses and eco-friendly bio-toilets set to be unveiled in phases.

A New Chapter in Mumbai’s Coastal Identity

With this opening, Mumbai’s coastline has taken a transformative step. This vibrant new promenade not only elevates the city’s urban fabric but also offers a refreshing public space for recreation, relaxation, and daily commute—reinforcing Mumbai’s modern coastal identity.
