Border on Edge as Drones Reappear Near LoC in J&K
Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert following multiple drone sightings near the Line of Control (LoC), marking the second such incident in less than 48 hours. The latest intrusion was reported in the Doonga Gali area of the Keri sector, where hovering drones triggered an immediate response from the Indian Army.
Troops swiftly opened fire in an attempt to neutralise the aerial objects and launched extensive ground searches to detect any possible drops of arms, ammunition, or contraband. While no recoveries were immediately reported from this incident, the sightings have raised serious concerns about renewed cross-border attempts to infiltrate and supply terror networks.
This recent activity follows a similar incident reported on Sunday in the Rajouri sector, where multiple drones were spotted, including one that hovered briefly over Chak Babral village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba. Earlier sightings had also been recorded in the Nowshera, Poonch, and Samba areas, suggesting a coordinated effort to exploit aerial routes for smuggling operations.
Army on High Alert After Fresh Drone Sightings Near LoC
Security measures along both the LoC and the International Border have since been strengthened, with forces maintaining enhanced vigilance. Notably, this is the first cluster of drone sightings in a short span since Operation Sindoor, launched in May last year to target terror infrastructure across the border following the Pahalgam attack.
The seriousness of the threat was underscored last week when security forces recovered a cache of pistols, magazines, and explosives in the Samba sector, reinforcing suspicions of Pakistan-backed attempts to supply weapons and narcotics to extremist groups.
Earlier this week, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, cautioning that any provocation would invite a decisive response. Recalling the outcomes of Operation Sindoor, he reiterated that Indian forces remain fully prepared to escalate conventional operations if required, emphasising that the military’s posture remains proactive and resolute.
